MCP tips and tricks

AI assistants do better the more you help them focus, and tell them how to work with your data.

Saying you mean Carbon Voice

Assistants decide when to look in Carbon Voice based on hints in what you type. Saying "in Carbon Voice" signals that you want the information found there.

Finding a person

A name is usually enough, as in "what did Sara say about…". If the assistant struggles, give it an email address instead, or the name of a conversation the person is in.

Finding conversations

The conversation name is fastest. If that doesn't work, give it the conversation ID, which you can get by pressing and holding the conversation and choosing Copy Conversation Link.

Linking back to messages

To make results tappable, tell the assistant to hyperlink message dates back to the message itself, using the format https://carbonvoice.app/m/<message_id>.

Prompts worth trying

  • "What topics have I covered with [person] in the last month?"
  • "In the past month, how has my tone been with [person]?"
  • "In the past month, when talking to [person], what are some better questions I could have asked?"
  • Summarizing a retro conversation into overall team sentiment, what's going well, what isn't, and what to change next sprint.
